Phillip C. Adamo earned a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. From 2001 to 2019, he was professor of history at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, and the founder and director emeritus of the nationally recognized program in Medieval Studies.
Widely acknowledged as an inspiring teacher, in 2000, he received the Clio Award for Outstanding Teaching in History at The Ohio State University and in 2006, he received Augsburg's award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Learning. In 2014, the Medieval Academy of America presented him with the CARA Award for Excellence in Teaching, and in 2015, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching named him Minnesota Professor of the Year.
In 2019, he retired from Augsburg to focus on numerous freelance writing projects.
In 2017, Adamo taught a course on race and ethnicity in the Middle Ages. Students produced posters for a pop-up museum in Augsburg’s library. Adamo made the poster shown here to explain the exhibit.
